The Waking

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I cannot go.

We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Of those so close beside me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.

Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me; so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.

This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.

I LOVE THE OLYMPICS!

I really do - from the opening ceremonies until the closing. This one in Athens was awesome. The mythology, literature, and history contributed material that made it incredible visually. The Greeks invented drama, so it's not surprising that this would be spectacular. Highlights from past years were watching Muhhamad Ali take part in Atlanta and the lighting of the flame by the arrow in LA.

It's helpful to see the population of various countries and the number of athletes they send to the Olympics. I get a lump in my throat to see the few that some countries were able to send and was glad Iraq had representatives with all that's going on there. Speaking of which, is that a myth that peace has traditionally been observed during the Olympics? It really bothers me when politics becomes involved in the Olympics since it should be above all that. As much as I like Jimmy Carter, his having us boycott the Olympics that time was wrong to me. These athletes represent the best a person can be and tests what s/he is made of. Because of age and other factors, that was the only chance many of them had to compete. It dashed their dreams. I didn't agree with it at all. Just as the one in jujitsu (I think) wouldn't compete with an Israeli because his country didn't recognize Israel. No one can help being born into a certain country or what that country's government does and shouldn't be penalized for it. I thought it was tacky, expoitive, and melodramatic for us to bring out the tattered flag from the World Trade Center during opening ceremonies in Salt Lake City. It was a horrible tragedy but not something that needed to be highlighted at that time.

I will be glued to the TV during the events of this Olympics, just as I am for them all. The stories of the athletes and their families inspire me. Their efforts are elevating. I'm so proud of all of the ones who made it there and are realizing the glory and accomplishment of being there. These athletes have devoted their lives to the pursuit of excellence in their fields. I applaud them all.
