The Waking
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I cannot go.
We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Of those so close beside me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.
Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me; so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.
This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.

Air Filtration
I need to clear the air about something. Despite the fact that I've taught English so long, sometimes I don't make my intended point. In my post about Bush's Brian, I was criticizing Karl Rove and how Machiavellian he is at manipulating people. (Redundancy Gilligan, that's me!) There are those in any group who don't think for themselves and will plunge lemming-like off a tangent. The Rove Gang cares about getting votes and then being able to do what they want to and will use any means to achieve those goals. They've learned how to tap into what well-meaning people believe and scare them into doing what they want. A large group they use are the evangelicals and fundamentalists. Case in point, Rove found a candidate he could use to become co-governor of Texas and co-president of the US. Dubya, a recovering alcoholic and druggie and born-again Christian, was just the guy for Rove. He appeals to regular people who have struggled with their own problems, cheer for the underdog, and sincerely follow Christian teachings. It's a shame that many of them are voting against their own best interests. Rove/Bush help the greedy Enron executive types amass and keep more of their money, too. There are also "True Believers" who bomb abortion clinics, support the death penalty, display bumper stickers and ribbons that are pro-war, and yet call themselves "Pro-Life." Rove knows how to work a crowd. This charlatan snake-oil salesman has fooled the shills quite well since they haven't seemed to catch on yet. Studio 360 explored the world of fakery today. Very informative show, as usual.
