The Waking
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I cannot go.
We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Of those so close beside me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.
Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me; so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.
This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.

Happy Anniversary!
Brian and Melissa celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary Tuesday, July 7. We reminisced yesterday about their wedding day and about how much fun they had at their wedding. They were married at Montgomery Bell State Park by the spillway with the lake behind them. Melissa was beautiful in her wedding gown and Brian was glowing when he saw her walk up the hill toward him. He still does. They are my role models and forged a relationship without growing up with the best examples. It's obvious that they are best friends as well as romantic partners and that they treat each other with kindness, respect, humor, and love. Well done, you two!
We also told stories about some of the men I went out with. Oddly, I grew up with parents who had a good marriage and solid values. I managed to stay married 9 1/2 years and have been divorced since Brian was 5. He, on the other hand, grew up with me and too much material of dating accidents. Our children learn from us in so many ways. I'm delighted that he and Melissa are together and that they have Brendan!
