The Waking

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I cannot go.

We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Of those so close beside me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.

Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me; so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.

This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.

Not So Tired

It's getting better, but I've realized that I have to get enough sleep and can't skate by on a minimum amount the way I used to. I'm trying really hard to get to school earlier than I ever have in my life which involves my leaving the house around 7:00!! I generally stay late after school to get some papers graded and get ready for the next day. There isn't enough time to eat lunch, so I'm going to start taking my lunch and eating during my planning period. We only have about half an hour which isn't enough time to get the students out of the room and on their way to the cafeteria, eat, and go to the restroom. Some of you have normal jobs where you can go to the restroom whenever you want to and have time to eat lunch. You also don't have to tell the ones you supervise to sit down and be quiet - at least I hope you don't! It's an odd situation in many ways.

I went to a discount office furniture store today and bought a podium and tall chair for my room, so I can sit more than I used to. This way I can still be at my podium and sit now and then. I'm used to moving around and standing while I teach, but there are times I can sit when we are going over answers but don't want to be at my desk. I also bought some bookcases since we don't have any in our rooms. They could have left off that steeple and spent it elsewhere since it doesn't go with the architectural design of the school anyway. Who knows why they have it there.

We're gettting into a routine there now. I think it's going to be a good year.
