The Waking

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I cannot go.

We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Of those so close beside me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.

Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me; so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.

This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.

Funny?

Perhaps you've heard about a recent study that found that men aren't attracted to funny women. According to the study, men like women with a sense of humor as long as they laugh at their jokes instead of making their own. While men might enjoy witty women, they "don't fancy" them for a long-term relationship. There were several sites with this study mentioned, but I chose this one because of the comments. This one has different viewpoints because of the content and readers.

After hearing about the study, I thought I'd write something humorous about how that might be the reason my relationships have been more successive than successful (from Dorothy Parker) since I was voted Wittiest in my class, but changed my mind. Humor is something a person is born with or not. I don't think it can be learned. It's also tied to intelligence. Not all intelligent people are humorous, but I'll go out on a limb to say that all quick-witted, funny people are intelligent. What we find humorous is subjective which explains why some of us love Monty Python and others prefer Carrot Top.

That said, fortunately I've found men who do like witty women who engage in clever banter with them. Not mean-spirited. Not all the time. Not at their expense. But because we like to laugh and see things humorously. After all, we want to be able to use our material and have someone who appreciates it.
