The Waking

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I cannot go.

We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Of those so close beside me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.

Light takes the Tree, but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me; so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.

This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.

Weekend

Friday night Brian, Melissa, and Brendan came down to Creek Wood and joined me for bar-b-que and bluegrass. It was a fundraiser to send some students to Anaheim for a business competition. One Way Street, a local band, was good. Terry Tucker, Marla Corlew, and Kolleen Godwin are the ones in it I know. We enjoyed the evening, and Brendan really zeroed in on the music.

The weather has been wonderful. I spent time inside grading papers, though. This made me think about my life without papers to grade and lessons to plan. That has hung over my head now for almost 40 years. Before that, it was papers to write, tests to study for, and assignments to read. I've been in school all my life except for the five years before I started to school, the three years I stayed home with Brian, and the one year I was on sick leave for cancer. Now I'm looking forward to a life with no alarm clocks and time to do things I want to do. Wow! How wonderful! The only thing that would make it better would be having more, not less, money. Maybe I can still take a cruise and travel and do some of those things I haven't done yet. There are ways. First though, I'm looking forward to cleaning and organizing my house and getting it the way I want it. Then I can enjoy having company a lot more.

Love Those Online Quizzes

Here's a short one about which Greek god we are. Morpheus c'est moi! (is that even correct French? Obviously, I never studied it - just some high school Spanish and later on a bit of Italian.)

Sooo .... which one are you?

you might be a geek if ...

When I took Brendan back to the hotel where the latest convention was held, Melissa and I were visiting, and this man walked over to Brendan, held out his hand, and said, "Give me five!" Brendan smiled, looked up at him, and said, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5."

DST or Daylight Savings Tirade

I've come home and taken naps both days this week because of the time change. It takes a while to get adjusted - usually a week or two. Often the next weekend gives me a chance to catch up; however, since I'll be in Nashville taking care of Brendan at the next geek convention, it might take another weekend. We'll see. (big yawn)

I like Arizona anyway, but they don't go on DST, which is another good reason to move there. The downside is that my grandchildren would be too far away, so I'll have to go there on vacations.

Where Do You Stand?

This is an interesting quiz to determine where we are politically. I'm on the top left corner of centrist at the intersection of liberal and libertarian. There's a picture of the chart in the photo album under My Views. What are you?

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 80%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 50%.

Shudder

Any of you feel this way, too? Senator Bill Frist's voice gives me the creeps worse than fingernails on a blackboard. Smarmy and annoying.

Coronation

I went to get the permanent crown at the dentist today for my tooth's coronation.

Before that I got the results from the CT scan I had in February during my appointment with Dr. Spigel. Things are still fine with no sign of lymphoma. Thanks to all of you who stuck with me when things were scary and now that I'm here in remission!

I'm such a grandmother ...

This is a song I made up and sang to Brendan when I kept him a while ago. He sings it to Brian and Melissa and for/with me yesterday when I got to spend some time with him. The song is to the tune of "Howdy Doody Time" and is quite simple:

It's Brendan and Grammy time!
It's Brendan and Grammy time!
We'll read and play and sing
And also eat something!
He'll look up at me and ask, "Eat some fing?"

He was in his carseat in the back seat with his shoe in his hand banging it on the car seat tray in front of him, so I sang/said, "Little Kruschev, banging his shoe!" Then he kept repeating that which was so cute, especially the way he pronounces his l's and r's now. The full box of Kleenex was within reach of Liddle Koosheff. Need I say more?

We had a really good time and enjoyed riding, singing, and playing at the Bellevue Mall play area while Brian and Melissa were at a geek convention at the Maxwell House Hotel. This one was an Animie convention. Looking at the kids dressed in costumes and walking around doing their thing was interesting. Brian and Melissa are working on HyperiCon in June, so I'll be there to help with Brendan. I'll take my camera next time and post some photos of the activities.

Various Quizzes and Lazy Blogging

Here are some quizzes that might be fun. Then I'll post the next trivia quiz next week. What happened is that I looked up answers to some questions I had concerning Popes since I wondered if Pope John Paul II had the longest reign of any of them (no, third longest) and to confirm the ones I could remember: Pope Pius (couldn't remember his number - XII), John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, and John Paul II. Here's a complete list of Popes.

Although I disagree with some of Pope John Paul's beliefs, I admire him for the many things he did to help people all over the world, especially the apologies about the Holocaust and Galileo. He was instrumental in fall of Communism and practices which caused suffering for many people. He'll be difficult to replace.

Then I took some quizzes and thought I'd share the results and see what you are on the ones you take. Here you go ...

I thought this was pretty neat when I looked her up.

I like this, too, since almost all of my ancestors are English. There are a couple of Cherokees in there which works well with my saint.
